salt & Straw

Pratt student work

Ice cream cups are a major contributor to single-use packaging waste, with most cups and spoons ending up in landfills or the ocean. We explored alternative materials to redesign these single-use items so they decompose more quickly, creating "The Sweetest Cycle".

Cups will have instructions on the bottom to help consumers know what to do.

In addition to the cups, signage will be placed inside and around ice cream shops to encourage customers to enjoy their treats on the go while responsibly disposing of their waste.

the sweetest cycle campaign

People generally want to do good but don't know where to start. Behavioral changes start small.

Salt & Straw is always looking for ways to give back to the Earth. With new compostable cups they want to start a shift for people's mindsets.  Consumers might think, "If I can compost my ice cream cup… what else can I compost?”

Salt & Straw wants to:

- normalize composting as an everyday behavior

- help consumers build their first composting habit

- reduce waste from food service packaging
